Cowtown Good Sam Chapter

Our club was the first Texas chapter charted in the new millennium. We received our charter January 1, 2000, one of the hundred or so chapters in the state of Texas.

The State is divided into Areas and we are in area 13.

Each area has Assistant State Directors to provide assistance. The area 13 Assistant State Directors are Don and Shirl Prater from Grandview, Texas.

Most of the Cowtown members are retired but some are still working full time and are able to attend most of the club functions. Our members are from various communities in the DFW area.

Our chapter members have a variety of RV's including motor homes, fifth wheel and travel trailers.

We schedule 3-day campouts monthly except for January, February, July and August. These four months are optional and may have campouts or other activities scheduled. Campouts normally begin on the third Friday of the month and end on Sunday. Our wagonmaster is given the latitude to schedule our campouts around area events and sometimes adjust for holidays. A yearly schedule is published with dates and locations. Quite often members come early or stay late. Campout sites are normally located within 150 miles of the metroplex, however twice a year they may be held at a distance not to exceed 300 miles.

Campout meals include BBQ, wiener roasts, pot luck or dining out. Activities include a chapter meeting and games such as, 42, chickenfoot, Mexican train, Jokers and pegs, sequence, card bingo, horse races and sand bag  base ball plus a campfire where possible. We are always open to learn new fun things. We find time for local sightseeing, shopping and Golf.

Our Hosts for the campout determine the direction of the fun and each rig gets the opportunity to host a campout.

We encourage our members to attend the Good Sam Samborees in the spring and fall as well as area 13/17 Mini Rallies.

A monthly news letter is mailed out to each member with information about the last campout and the upcoming campout so that everyone is informed about the activities, illness, birthdays, and anniversaries.

Roster, Schedule, Birthdays, and Anniversaries are listed and printed annually.

Chapter eligibility requirements are to be a member in good standing of Good Sam, attend two chapter meetings and submit a request for membership.

Chapter dues are $30.00 Dollars per year of which $2.00 Dollars goes to the State Good Sam.

We are always looking for more members that enjoy the RV lifestyle. Come visit with us and share in the fun, food and fellowship.
